Deep Tissue Massage  Explained

Deep tissue massage is designed to relieve severe tension in the muscles & the connective tissue or fascia. This type of massage focuses on the muscles located below the surface of the top muscles. Deep tissue massage is often recommended for individuals who experience consistent pain, are involved in heavy physical activity ( such as athletes ), & patients who have sustained physical injury. It is not uncommon for receivers of deep tissue massage to have their pain replaced with a new muscle ache for a day or two.

This kind of therapeutic massage is mostly recommended by a lot of doctors as a treatment option. This is a particular kind of massage therapy that focuses on the deep layers of muscle & physical outlook. By means of finger, thumb & elbow pressure & slow, firm strokes, deep tissue massage is used to treat multiple physical illnesses.

Decreases Chronic Pain

Deep tissue massage increases the blood circulation in our body. In this matter, it lessens the possibility of inflammation that causes pain. This type of massage can also help improve muscle tension that is usually a side effect of chronic pain by way of releasing the tissues which are tightly clustered. The University of Maryland Medical Centre reports that deep tissue massage is more effective & inexpensive for relieving chronic pain than any other conventional medical therapy.

Help Regulate Blood Pressure

People who encountered this type of massage have noticed that their systolic pressure fell down by an average of 10.4 mm Hg & their diastolic pressure fell down to an average 5.3 mm Hg, according to a study made by the University of Maryland Medical Centre. Deep tissue massage can help improve the production of our body’s serotonin, the hormone which aids in promoting happiness & positive outlooks in life & also helps in decreasing stress & tension which can have an advantageous effect on blood pressure.

Splits Up Scar Tissue

Deep tissue massage therapy can help split up & in the long run, removes scar tissue in the body. This is done by improving lymphatic circulation & drainage to improve flexibility & range of motion in the affected area. Scar tissue is connected with constant pain & stiffness most of the time, & deep tissue massage therapy can eliminate these symptoms. Also, deep tissue massage is highly recommended for people who are getting better from surgery.

Naturalizes Injured Muscles

Deep tissue massage can be an effective treatment for incapacitated muscles because it facilitates the movement of toxins from the muscles & helps stretch tight or twisted muscle mass. Deep tissue massage also helps in promoting healing. Because massage also helps relax muscles, it can moderate pain caused by injuries. Deep tissue massage is commonly used to naturalize sports injuries.

Relieves Stress

Deep tissue massage can be a relief for people who suffer with from chronic stress, & all of it’s numerous, probable side-effects like severe headaches, unbending shoulders & constricted muscles. During the session, you can let it all go & give in to the healing. Whenever it is transformed & strengthened you will be able to face your challenges more equitably.

Conclusion

Deep tissue massage can feel slightly painful or uncomfortable when you first have it, but  that doesn’t last for long from my own experience. I also feel a bit sore for the next couple of days, but the soreness is easier to manage then the pain that was in the muscles before the massage

  1. I’ve never taken massage all that seriously but now I feel more informed. I have a very physical job and often struggle with all manner of aches and pains. I’m not a big fan of medication so I generally just push through it.
These types of massages might be the relief I need.

    1. Hi Jean
My job is also very physical (fabricator welder) Aches & pains seem to be part of the job description ! That was until I started having massages over 8 years ago now. First part of the body to have aches & pains in my job is lower back. I have little pain now ! even though I’m getting older.
You should give it a try. You will be surprised who much better you will feel afterwards.

    1. Hi Helen
It’s nice to hear from like minded people. Massage is becoming more acceptable as a treatment for many different conditions.
Doctors are now recommending it to some patients. So it must be good! right ?
      Thank you for your comment

  2. Massages can be so beneficial. However, have also had a couple of bad experiences and was sore for several days. I even ended up with bruises. Took a while, but have now found a great masseuse who has benefited me greatly.

    1. Hi Brad
I think anyone who has massage regular with different therapists will come across the same problem you have had. I for one did on a trip to Thailand, what we thought was a good establishment turned out not to be. Rather than been massaged mine felt like I was been pinched & the wife’s was just a rub ! I also ended up with neck ache for a few days. Safe to say we never went back again.
I’m glad it didn’t stop you trying someone else. I’ve seen a bad experience put some people off for life.
Like any profession you will always find good & bad ones.
