Sharing is caring!

Arthritis is a disease of the joints, causing swelling & severe pain around the joints.

OSTEOARTHRITIS Is were the cartilage wears away between the joints causing inflammation & pain.

RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS This is caused by the white blood cells destroying the cartilage, this then causes inflammation & pain in & around the joints.

Experts still have no idea what causes either of these arthritis’s.

Treatment for Rheumatoid Arthritis

The First Tablets that are used are : PARACETAMOL. CO-CODAMOL. These only help with the pain.

You can be prescribed ANTI-INFLAMMATORY drugs such as IBUPROFEN. ASPIRIN. These help with pain & stiffness. But have a lot of possible side effects such as : STOMACH ACHE. MILD HEARTBURN. NAUSEA. VOMITING. BLOATING.GAS. DIARREA. CONSTIPATION. DIZZINESS. HEADACHES. MILD ITCHING or RASH. RINGING IN THE EAR. To name a few & have no long term benefits.

Or if the symptoms are worse STERIOD based drugs, such as PREDNISONE. DEPO-MEDRONE. Now I was on PREDNISONE for many years as a suffer of ULCERATED COLITIS. I speak from experience with the side effects from these tablets : INSOMNIA. MOOD CHANGES. INCREASED APPETITE. GRADUAL WEIGHT GAIN. ACNE. SWEATING. DRY SKIN. THINNING SKIN. BRUISING. SLOW WOUND HEALING. HEADACHES. DIZZINESS. SPINNING SENSATION. NAUSEA. STOMACH PAIN. BLOATING. BLURRED VISION. Plus from my experience, you can’t just stop taking them, you have to decrease the amount you take. Then when you do stop the headaches I got were unbearable ! Headache tablets would not relieve it either. The picture is when I was 26 years old & had been on PREDNISONE for over 10 months ! That’s how they make you swell up. The tablets had nothing to do with the bad haircut ! lol .I look at this picture & can’t believe it’s me !.

Then there’s the DISEASE MODIFYING ANTI-RHEUMATIC DRUGS (DMARDs for short ). such as METHOTREXATE. SULFASALAZINE. These drugs reduce the immune system attacks. But they can take time to work, for weeks to months. Common side effects include : BLOOD in URINE or STOOL. BLOODY VOMIT. DIARRHEA. JOINT PAIN. REDDENING SKIN. SORES IN THE MOUTH or LIPS. STOMACH PAIN. SWELLING of the FEET or LOWER LEGS.

Or you could be prescribed : BIOLOGIC DRUGS. Such as INFLIXIMAB. ETANECEPT. They reduce immune system attacks by targeting particular chemicals or cells in the body’s immune system. Some common side effects : HEADACHE. STOMACH PAIN. NAUSEA. STUFFY NOSE. SINUS PAIN. SKIN RASH. FLUSHING. VOMITING.

Both DMARDs & BIOLOGIC DRUGS are long term drugs to reduce & prevent damage.

Then as a last resort, when all else has failed & the pains unbearable & movements nearly gone, It’s time for a operation.

  1. I have been suffering with arthritis for about a year now and I’ve been using cream from the doctors which seems to work ok but I wouldn’t mind trying something different, out of the ones you have shown me which do you think would work best for me as I’m only 38

    1. HI Matthew.
My favourite would have to be Lavender & Peppermint. Lavender because it has so many benefits, One being anti-inflammatory & peppermint is cooling and a great pain relief. Plus the two together smell really good in my diffuser.
      Hope this helps ?

  2. I love essential oils for scents, but never think about using them to help ease pain. Although I don’t have a problem with arthritis, I have family and friends suffering from the illness. I will share this helpful post with them. I will also mix my very favorite oils Peppermint and Lavender for a healing massage the next time I am having pain.

    1. Hi Carol
I love Lavender & peppermint mixed in my diffuser. Lavender for relaxing & peppermint for clearing the nose & head. Great combination after a hard day at work ! I have never used them together for massage ? I will be in Thailand in a couple of weeks, I’ll get them mixed whilst having a massage there.
      Thanks for the positive comment
